Let Your Light Shine in the Midst of Your Enemies

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” — Psalm 23:5, KJV

“The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.” — Psalm 110:2, KJV

These two powerful Bible passages point to an important truth: we can rule and thrive even in the midst of opposition and the appearance of evil.

Regardless of the arrows the enemy may shoot at us or the evil plans that may be formed against us, we are more than conquerors through Christ.

The first Bible passage, Psalm 23:5, was written by David, while Psalm 110:2 prophetically points to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Both passages remind us that the presence of enemies does not mean the absence of God's presence.

God Can Prepare a Table in the Presence of Your Enemies

In my previous post, I talked about how we are living in dark times. Things have changed significantly, and it can sometimes feel as though people can no longer be trusted.

There are places we go where we can sense that different forces are at work. These forces can be influenced by either God or the devil, and those who are spiritually sensitive may discern what is happening.

For example, when relocating to a new environment, there may already be certain spiritual influences operating in that place.

Where light is absent, darkness occupies the space. There is no vacuum.

However, although darkness may exist around us, the Word of God tells us that our light should shine brighter and brighter until the perfect day.

Let Your Light Shine in the Darkness

As believers, we are called to let our light shine wherever we find ourselves.

Jesus said:

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14, KJV

This means that wherever we go, the light of Christ should be evident.

Our presence should make a difference.

In the midst of darkness, our light should guide people and point them toward the true Light, Jesus Christ.

This is why we should not be intimidated by dark environments.

Instead, we should remember who we are in Christ.

Even in the presence of opposition, God can prepare a table before us.

The table is not necessarily prepared after the enemies disappear. According to Psalm 23:5, God prepares the table in their presence.

This is powerful.

It means that opposition does not have to stop God's purpose for your life.

We Are Called to Represent Jesus Wherever We Go

As believers and children of God, it is our responsibility to represent Jesus wherever we are.

No matter how dark a place may have been before we arrived, when we get there, light should be present.

We should not bargain with darkness or hide because darkness exists.

Why?

Because we carry a superior Light.

The light of Christ is greater than the darkness around us.

Our responsibility is not to become like the darkness in order to survive in it. Rather, we are called to shine.

When light enters a dark room, the darkness does not negotiate with the light.

The darkness simply gives way.

There Is a Stronger Power

Luke 11:21–22 says:

“When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.” — KJV

The enemy may be strong, and he may attempt everything possible to maintain his territory through different means.

But Scripture tells us about a stronger power.

Our confidence is not in our own strength.

Our confidence is in God.

There is no greater power than our God.

James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above, from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

God does not change.

His power does not become weaker because the world becomes darker.

His light does not become less powerful because darkness increases.

Do Not Give Up When You Cannot See Immediate Results

Sometimes, when we begin engaging with our spiritual weapons or learning the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, it may initially appear as though nothing is happening.

You pray.

You believe.

You declare God's Word.

You remain consistent.

Yet, everything may seem unchanged.

Do not give up.

There are times when the process is taking place before you can see the result.

Persistence and continuity matter.

Keep praying.

Keep believing.

Keep studying God's Word.

Keep walking in obedience.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Before you know it, what once appeared confusing may begin to clear up.

What seemed impossible may begin to change.

What looked like darkness may eventually give way to light.

Light Will Conquer Darkness

The enemy may try everything he can to reclaim territory.

There may be opposition.

There may be resistance.

There may be circumstances that make you question whether your prayers are making a difference.

But do not give up.

Light will conquer darkness.

God has never lost His power.

He remains sovereign.

He remains faithful.

He remains the Father of lights.

And He is still working even when we cannot see everything He is doing.

You Are the Light of the World

You are not insignificant.

As a child of God, you have been called to shine.

You are “the light of the world, a city that is set on an hill that cannot be hidden.”

Therefore, do not allow the enemy to convince you otherwise.

Do not allow the darkness around you to make you forget who you are.

Do not allow opposition to make you stop shining.

Wherever God has placed you, let your light shine.

If you enter a dark environment, shine.

If you encounter difficult people, shine.

If you face opposition, shine.

If you find yourself surrounded by circumstances you do not understand, shine.

Your responsibility is to represent Jesus.

Your life should point people toward Him.

And even when enemies surround you, God can still prepare a table before you.

Keep Shining

The world may become darker, but the light of God's children should become brighter.

We are not called to retreat in fear.

We are called to stand.

We are called to shine.

We are called to represent Christ.

We are called to walk in the authority and victory that we have through Him.

So, wherever you find yourself, remember:

Let your light shine in the midst of your enemies.

You are the light of the world.

You are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden.

Do not let the enemy tell you otherwise.

Keep shining.

Keep trusting God.

Keep using the weapons God has given you.

Keep walking with Jesus.

And remember that the darkness will never overcome the Light.
